ORIGINAL
MOBIUS JEWELRY FROM DVBNY. MADE IN THE USA!
"Lord make me
an instrument of your peace".
Born in 1181
in Umbria, Francis Bernadone was the son of a rich cloth
merchant. In adolescence, Francis became a prisoner of war
from one of the constant battles between Italian city-states; in
this case neighboring Perugia. During his internment, Francis
underwent a spiritual awakening.
His unassuming
character, love of nature and criticism of the greed and
worldliness of the established Church earned him an enormous
following throughout Europe in the 13th century, posing an
unprecedented challenge to a decadent clergy and corrupt Papcy. His
teachings founded the Franciscan Order by permission of Pope
Innocent III in 1209.
This necklace
carries the opening line of his prayer.
The geometric
shape of the pendant is known as a Mobius strip, after the German
mathematician August Ferdinand Mobius. It represents the seeming
paradox of a plane without end, or one of infinite length. As such
it became an accepted mathematical symbol for infinity. The circlet
will move about the chain when worn, constantly changing its
appearance. Creating one shape, then another. The more one observes
its seeming simplicity, the more complex it becomes. The message
remains constant, the form never rests.
All are
craftman made. Each piece is accompanied by a storycard explaining
the history or derivation of the inscription.
